Insurance & Pricing

Straight answers on cost — before you book.

Cost uncertainty is one of the most common reasons people delay care. This page gives you the full picture: what we accept, what cash pay looks like, and what to expect with dry needling specifically.

Coverage

Insurance We Accept

Physica Medica accepts the following insurance networks: CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medicare, and Medicaid. If your plan is through one of these carriers, physical therapy is likely covered — though your specific benefits depend on your plan's deductible, copay, and visit limits.

Before your first visit, we recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking: "Do I have outpatient physical therapy benefits, and do I need a referral?" Maryland is a direct-access state, so no referral is required to see us — but some plans still require one for coverage purposes.

Not sure if we're in-network? Call us at 443-228-8029 and we'll help you sort it out before you schedule.

Self-Pay

Cash Pay and Out-of-Pocket Options

If you're uninsured, out-of-network, or prefer to pay directly, cash-pay rates are available. A standard one-on-one session with a Doctor of Physical Therapy runs $150–$200 depending on session type and length. Initial evaluations are priced separately — ask when you call.

We can provide a superbill after each visit if you'd like to submit for out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance plan. Some patients recover a meaningful portion of their costs this way.

Flexibility

Payment Plans

For patients paying out of pocket who need flexibility, we offer payment plan arrangements on a case-by-case basis. Ask about this when you call or during your free movement screen. We'd rather work something out than have cost be the reason you don't get the care you need.

The value question

Why Some Patients Choose to Pay Out of Pocket

At a standard PT clinic, your insurance dollar often buys you 10–15 minutes with a DPT, followed by time with a PT aide running you through exercises. That model works for straightforward cases. It doesn't work well for chronic pain, complex injuries, or patients who've already been through PT and didn't get results.

  • The same DPT for every visit, from intake through discharge.
  • Manual therapy and corrective movement integrated inside the same hour — not split across multiple appointments.
  • Dry needling, IASTM, cupping, and deep tissue work delivered as tools in the DPT’s hands — not billed as separate add-on services.
  • Clear plan with a projected number of sessions after the first visit. No open-ended commitment, no surprise upsells.

Dry needling coverage

Will Insurance Cover Dry Needling?

This is one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is: it depends on your plan. Some of the insurance networks we accept do cover dry needling when it's billed as part of a physical therapy session — but coverage varies significantly by plan and carrier.

Common questions

Questions About Cost? Ask Before You Book.

We'd rather answer your cost questions up front than have you guess. Here are the three we hear most often.

What makes Physica Medica different from a standard PT clinic?

Will insurance cover my physical therapy sessions at Physica Medica? If you're insured through CareFirst, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medicare, or Medicaid, there's a good chance your sessions are covered. Your copay, deductible, and visit cap are specific to your plan. Call us and we'll help you figure it out.

What credentials and specializations does Dr. Maks hold?

How much does dry needling cost, and is it covered by insurance? Coverage varies by carrier and plan. For cash-pay patients, dry needling is included in the session rate — no separate charge. Ask your insurer about procedure code coverage if you want a specific answer before you come in.

How do I know if Physica Medica is the right fit for my condition?

What does a typical session cost if I pay out of pocket? Sessions run $150–$200 for a one-on-one hour with a DPT. We can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan allows it.
